Expert Witness

Do you suspect the your home was defectively constructed?  If you are seeking a lawsuit, need a deposition, or a 3rd party mediator, Mark Parlee has been trusted to testify as an expert witness in many significant court cases.  He has also performed mediation between a builder and a homeowner, in the case a builder did not know how to repair existing damage.  Mark will produce evidence with material from his Building Envelope Assessment—in essence, bringing the house into the courtroom.  Even if you do not wish to take your suspicions to court, Mark Parlee can explicitly prove how the builder improperly constructed your residential home, townhouse, or apartment complex through a detailed Building Envelope Assessment.  Under the Supreme Court’s expansion of the implied warranty in construction matters in Iowa, original builders of a home can be held liable for the first 15 years prior to June 2017 after construction, and 10 years thereafter, no matter how many times a home is transferred.  If severe leakage occurs after the first 15 years prior to June 2017 after, and 10 years thereafter, it is too late.  Though your home may not show obvious signs now, a preventive analysis from Mark will save you

“Licensed to practice law in the state of Iowa, I have had cause to use expert witnesses in many of my cases.  After hiring Mark, I found Mr. Parlee to be knowledgeable in the subject matter and motivated to complete the assigned task. Mr. Parlee was quick to meet with my clients.  He presented himself professionally and in a highly competent matter evaluated the circumstances and provided a recommendation to resolve the issues.  Mr. Parlee’s assistance helped resolve the case, and my clients were pleased with the service and followed Mr. Parlee’s advice.”

Negotiations With your Builder or Insurance Company:

Parlee will parley. Many homeowners’ insurance qualifies them for damage compensation, but neither the homeowner nor the insurance company is aware of a probable cost.  Mark will investigate the damage and help the homeowner place a precise value on the necessary repair.  Builders, as well, are often unaware of repair estimation, and tender an inaccurate appraisal. Damage is often much more extensive than it seems; a trustworthy 3rd party’s assessment of the dollar value in repair work is indispensable. Mark’s workmanship comes highly recommended by every one of Mark’s clients who have utilized his expertise in the past.

“Without the help of this report and Mark’s knowledge of the manufacturer’s installation history, we would have never been able to convince our builder that he was at fault.  I would highly recommend Mark Parlee.”
